Using a Strong Wonderpole ® for Elevated Photography

Upgrading to a better pole

Want to go higher or be safer?

~ Do you want to go really high?
~ Do you want a really strong, stiff pole for safety reasons?
~ Are you planning on putting an expensive camera up on your pole?

If any of these apply to you, then you should think about getting a Wonderpole.® The Wonderpole ® is a fiberglass pole thick walls and alternating grains of fiberglass. The result is a premium pole that is stronger and stiffer than an ordinary painter pole of the same length, and one that can go to taller heights; it even comes in a variety of colors.

We are the authorized distributor for Wonderpole® camera poles. We have an off-the-shelf conversion kit to convert 21 ft, 30 ft, and 40 ft Wonderpoles ® into an elevated photography platform that is totally interoperable with all of our products.

Ordering: You may purchase Wonderpole® poles with kits on the Wonderpole® Ordering Page. So get a strong pole today!

A Canon G12 on a Wonderpole ® extended to more than 30 feet.
Left: As you can see in the photo above, even the Wonderpole will flex, and this will depend upon how much weight is on the end and how far the pole is extended. Having sufficient weight at the bottom means that the pole is much more manageable and does not move as you raise the pole.

This the the DSLR elevated camera rig that we use to take photos. It has a 5-21 foot Wonderpole ® with adapters and one of our large foam-padded plates. In the photo to the left, we have a Canon 5D, Mark II camera body with a 24mm tilt/shift lens and a remote wireless trigger. We use off-the-shelf ankle weights purchased at a sporting equipment store; these have velcro straps and are easy to attach and remove from the pole.

In the adjacent photo, we extended the pole to about 17 feet. The wireless remote control trigger is held in a hand, small enough so that it can be held easily and so that the hands never leave the pole for maximum safety. Some people have made a remote trigger using a cord, but we will not use such equipment because our cameras are valuable it is much, much safer to keep your hands on the pole, especially if there is any breeze.
